It was an awful evening for Paris Saint-Germain as they went down to a chastening 3-1 defeat against Lorient in Ligue 1 with Achraf Hakimi being dismissed to reduce the hosts to 10 men. PSG had been aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table over second-placed Marseille, but it ended up being a pretty disastrous result as Lorient came through as very worthy winners.

Paris Saint-Germain suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Lorient in Ligue 1 as Achraf Hakimi saw red.
PSG were looking to extend their lead at the top of the table over second-placed Marseille, while Lorient wanted to arrest the poor form that saw them in mid-table.
PSG were on the back foot after just 15 minutes when Enzo Le Fee was set up by Gedeon Kalulu to fire home, and matters were made worse for the home side when Hakimi saw red five minutes later for a second bookable offence.
There was more controversy almost 10 minutes later when Kylian Mbappe seized the ball from Yvon Mvogo to level, but Darlin Yongwa was on hand to put his side back in front.
In the second half, PSG continued to toil as Lorient were content to play within themselves and hold onto their lead, but the home side did not look likely to break through for another equaliser.
Hugo Ekitike was introduced after the hour mark as the home side were chasing the game, but PSG failed to find a second goal, and Bamba Dieng made it three when PSG were caught upfield.

Talking Point - PSG remain complacent after years of success

Paris Saint-Germain have spent hundreds of millions of pounds on young talent and superstars, but at no point have they carried themselves with the experienced ruthlessness of a team like Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.
With another season soon to end with just the league as their major trophy and rumours of an overhaul, it is clear that while Kylian Mbappe is their standout player and talisman, they need more than just him as leader.
The summer could see Christophe Galtier moved on, but the problems may be more fundamental than that.

Player of the match - Romain Faivre (Lorient)

Kalulu excelled on the right alongside him, but Faivre’s technique to drive to the line for the second goal was the finest moment of the match. His performance was essential to keep his side in the match.

29’ - GOAL! PSG 1-1 LORIENT (MBAPPE SCORES) - The Lorient players surround the referee. After Mbappe called for a penalty, Mvogo picks up the ball, and then rolls it out in front of him. Mbappe, reasonably, decides that he should take the ball and boot it home. Why not?
39’ - GOAL! PSG 1-2 LORIENT - YONGWA SCORES - Lorient press down the right, Faivre skips past two defenders with close control and he pulls it back for Yongwa to slot home.
67’ - MVOGO SAVE - A point-blank header from Danilo is beaten away brilliantly.
