Minor earthquake hits Montreal area

A minor earthquake struck the Montreal region Monday evening.

The quake, measured as 3.0-magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey and 3.5 by Earthquakes Canada , had its epicentre just north of Laval in the Mascouche area at 9:23:33 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometres.

No damage was immediately reported. A 3.5-magnitude earthquake, while strong enough to be felt, rarely causes significant damage.

The tremor was nevertheless felt throughout the Montreal region, and as far north as Val-David.
