SURREY, B.C. — Homicide investigators say they have arrested the husband of a missing Metro Vancouver teacher in connection with her death.

Naomi Onotera was last seen near her home on Aug. 28, and police say they recovered evidence from her home on Friday.

The 40-year-old woman was a kindergarten teacher and mother of an 18-month-old daughter.

Sgt. David Lee, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, says in a statement that Obnes Regis faces one charge of manslaughter and one charge of indignity to human remains.

Police would not say where the remains were discovered but confirmed Regis was Onotera’s husband.

Lee says police know Onotera’s disappearance concerned the community and hopes the arrest “provides some answers.”
