Manchester United never followed up their interest in Eduardo Camavinga after holding discouraging talks with the midfielder's representatives in the summer transfer window.

United had explored the possibility of a move for Camavinga, 19, but were made aware that the teenager's preference was always to move to Spain this summer.

The French youngster is set to get his wish on transfer deadline day after Real Madrid agreed a deal with French side Rennes for the player, who was out of contract next year.

A United move for Camavinga this summer was effectively a non-starter following those talks with his representatives, given the club will only sign players who are completely sold on the vision of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

It means United will likely end the summer without any new additions in midfield with player sales the priority on deadline day.

United are prepared to let some attackers leave after they agreed a €23million deal to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus. The club could announce the completion of the Ronaldo deal later today after he passed a medical in Lisbon on Monday morning.

Daniel James will formally complete his permanent move to Leeds today while the club are also open to sanctioning a deal for Jesse Lingard.

United value Lingard at £25m but it is highly unlikely they would receive an offer close to that figure with the window open for less than 24 hours.
