SCOUTING REPORTS:

NFL.com: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/josh-myers/32004d59-4542-0232-84be-468f305...

Future starting center with proportionally broad frame and good lean mass. Myers is battle-tested and has experience in most run-blocking schemes. He's functional working into lateral positioning but is at his best on double teams and working up to linebackers to free the Buckeyes' interior rushing attack. He's not a natural bender and has trouble with contact balance when allowing defenders to get up under his pads. His size works to his advantage against power rushers but protection will become a little leaky when asked to slide and mirror against athletic edge attacks. Myers is solid but unspectacular with the talent to become an early starter.

FIT WITH THE PACKERS:

From the CHTV Draft Guide: Though he was recruited as a tackle by Ohio State, he never played there in college, only playing at center for the past two seasons. Myers would be a plug-and-play center for the Packers, who have some uncertainty on the interior of their offensive line heading into the 2021 offseason. Myers’ experience in zone concepts should help his transition to the NFL, but Ohio State doesn’t run a lot of wide zone, so that would be an area where he’d have to adapt.

COMMENTARY:

It appears the Packers are trying to replicate their previous successful draft pick of an Ohio State center. We can only hope Myers even comes close to what Corey Linsley was. While I can't say I've studied the centers, it's interesting that Myers was drafted aead of a much higher ranked prospect, Creed Humphrey.  It seems like for the second night in a row, the Packers have reached a bit to get the guy they really like without trading up. A new tactic for Gutenkunst?

From the CHTV Draft Guide: Myers is at his best in the run game, where his athleticism is on display. Being able to cover up defensive linemen who outleverage him pre-snap and climbing to the second level are where Myers wins consistently. While he’s not a devastating run blocker, he’s  very effective, covering up defenders to aid his running backs. Ohio State runs a lot of inside zone and gap scheme concepts, so he’ll have an easy transition to the NFL game. As a pass protector, Myers uses his length well to keep defenders at bay and create  longer edges for interior rushers. His hand placement is effective most of the time, and at center is a bit protected as he’s usually never one-on-one in pass protection. Myers shows a good understanding of defensive movement and seeing stunts and games along the defensive line.

Not surprised the Packers take one of the top C in this draft, but expected it would be Humphrey (who went right after the Packers took Meyers). Solid pick. Starter from day 1. Either means they expect Bakhtiari to make a quick comeback, or they like Jenkins on the perimeter.

Another choice who can contribute now. If that’s the theme in the weighting this year, it’s a savvy one in this odd cap year.

Huge, Coldworld. 3 players drafted through 3 rounds, and all 3 look like they could start tomorrow. I know LaFleur’s O is complex, but Amari Rodgers being a coach’s son, with lifelong mentoring by Randall Cobb? A great pedigree to help him step right in, especially coming from a Top program like Clemson.

All 3 players come from pro style systems, battle tested by Top level competition. I like it thus far.

Like Linsley, Myers comes out of Ohio State. Hopefully that is a sign of more good things to come for the Packer at Center. Playing at Ohio State he will be familiar with the big stage and big games. I would have expected the Packers to take a Center in the 4th round or later but here we are.

Punter next??? Thanks, Since '61

Very good start to draft with CB, C, and WR. Are you complaining that they took a solid center before the 4th round? He should start and that lets Jenkins play his normal position figuring Bakh is ready to go. I don't get your punter remark. I see these sarcastic posts on Facebook where people don't understand football or know the team. Most posts on this site are from fans who know better. Thanks since 60

Since’61, What I like about the C add early is it allows GB to slide Elgton to LT until Bak is ready to return, if need be. Personally, I felt that was a better course of action for immediate help at OL for the Packers, then add a depth/development OT with a late pick.

DL being a Top need, I expect them to hit that a couple of times with their remaining 6.

While I LOVE the Stokes pick at 29, I wanted McNeill R1 or R2, just to secure him with the Packers, and thought he’d get snapped up early. Just too many immediate needs calling out in GB, but I like who they’ve added.

One scout had him rated between Asante Samuel and Dylan Moses. A second round seems high, but teams are getting to that place where a lot of unknowns will be showing up. Maybe not unknows but unexpected picks.
He will probably start right away.

In addition, with many having had less game experience, fewer ready for immediate snaps.

Looks like dobber was right....sounds like a heck of a player. I sincerely hope this means they think Jenkins is the answer outside and we don't need to draft any more OL until much, much later. All of my personal favorites were taken at other positions earlier in the second round, so I'll be a good sport and get on board with Josh. On to the DL next--please!!

was on the phone with sailor son in Japan. I called the position and wanted Humphrey bad......IMHO, GB chose the wrong guy. I think they were brilliant picking Linsley where they did and he really played better & better from day 1. Unless Ohio St has the same Oline coach who can speak for Meyers comparing him favorably to a previous athlete (i.e. CL), GB has the right position, wrong player. Everyone saw KC snap up Humphrey!
We shall see. I'm very impressed GB apparently didn't have to move up in round 2 to get one of the players they were targeting.

Last, i noted there hasn't been a QB taken yet in rnd 2. We spoke of GB picking the Stanford QB to compete with Love, which would mean all these bogus rumors are on the trade of AR to Denver may have some real validity. We laughed, but any speak of AR moving from Lambeau isn't funny at all.

2 wideouts that have been associated with Green Bay...Marquez Stevenson from Houston. Smaller but terrific start/stop ability. Probably 4th round 2nd is Michael Strachan who is 6-5, 215 Lbs. and runs like the wind. Both will need coaching on route running.

I love them both and have had them mocked to GB a number of times in the studies I put together. “Speedy” Stevenson is legit.

There are plenty of other WRs too that I love as perfect fits in GB. Really, really glad they took Amari Rodgers, as the gadget component is really essential to LaFleur’s scheme. Wouldn’t doubt if they tap another gadget as a backup sometime later today, or as soon as our next pick, if the right guy is there.

With my favorite DL McNeill gone, I’ve studied alternatives, as I thought him being snapped away early was highly probable. There are a number of alternatives there which can allow Kenny Clark to slide over, or to rotate with him. Can’t wait to see who they add there. Hoping for two DL today. Also, S, ILB, and OT. We’ll see...

Solid pick. He'll start day 1. I wasn't a fan of moving Jenkins to center. Why is it when a team doesn't pick a player based on Todd McShay's board it's a reach? I trust the Packers over the mock draft gurus. For whatever reason they had Meyers ranked higher than Humphrey. That's good enough for me. The last center out of OSU turned out ok.

Listening to the DIC is foolish. Maybe KC was pissed that Myers was snatched up one pick before them and they had to settle for Creed Humphrey.

Humphrey was the better Center. I thought he would go earlier. The foolish thinking is letting an All-pro center go. And then trying to replace him with a Rookie. And it also signaled that Hanson is a bust.

6th round busts are hardly rare, but in this case we needed depth somewhere so it is a premature call.

It certainly sounds like the scouts thought very highly of our pick. Does that reflect on Humphrey in part or just the fact that they like Myers? That I do not know. Certainly seems to be a football guy. Looks like they view him as being a genuine guard prospect too. He is big for a C at 315 pounds.

There is no such thing as a 6th round "bust". By that time, the percentage is so low, you just assume he's nothing. The occasional hit is pure bonus. 6th & 7th rounders are simply preferred UDFA selections.

There is a pretty good interview w/ Myers on his Grandad and how close they were. Seems like a solid decent person and his film shows him doing his pass and run blocking well. I'm not pointing fingers about any other players in the draft but kid seems very likable. Carries a piece of his Grandads jersey from College in his sock. Game means a lot to him. Solid pick and excellent character player. Let's not forget with ML scheme, him and Gute are transitioning the OL into his vision of what he wants it to be and along with Jenkins, it is moving that way.

Completed a high percentage of his snaps to the quarterback, and had a knack for getting in the way of defenders.
Just Josh'n.
Seriously, folks, it seems good that so far the Packers have picked two quality guys at positions of need, with little injury history and a lot of experience against top competition.
Both these guys may have a few rough edges, but should be refined enough by this fall to contribute significantly to the Packers as rookies. There's a good possibility both will be at least solid starters for a long time, and maybe offer even more. Wasn't this past year Linsley's first as a pro-bowler?
I would think most Packers fans here at CHTV would be very happy right now with Stokes and Meyers.
It seems like an excellent start to this draft in an unassuming way.

Don't you mean "Heir presumptive"? In this case, if there is someone more qualified than him (Jenkins or Patrick or X), that someone would get the job, otherwise it is his.

Heir apparant means the job is his, no 2 ways about it.

Agree, maybe we will still have Rodgers to Rodgers. I got 2 out of 3 of my hopes for the Packers first 3 picks.

I wanted a CB, WR and DL. I'll take the CB, C and WR who we have selected. "2 out of 3 ain't bad."

Thanks, Since '61

I'll never complain about adding OL help. They were awesome along the line last year and it showed in the overall offensive numbers. With 9-10 on the roster, you need to add at least one every single draft to maintain that, IMO.

The Packers don't have to hand a starting spot to Myers but there certainly is one there for the taking if he's worth the pick.

Sometimes scouts and media evaluators see players through a certain scheme and as we have become aware since moving to a nontraditional 12 personnel/ run scheme guys like AJ Dillon and JD are going to be better for that than for more conventional schemes. Same with the WR.

Possibly the case with meyer as well. IDK but it is a variable to be considered when we evaluate as fans.

Even for the "quick" slor wr. he still better be able to block and those smaller guys are going to have trouble. Amari is short but very stout for a slot/gadget guy.

He has a RB build and can take some punishment, which plays well for a slot.
