For the First Time, Women's Golf to Compete at the Spring Break Shootout
MOREHEAD, Ky. – After competing for a tournament championship its last time out at the Kiawah Island Classic—the largest collegiate tournament field in the country—Morehead State women's golf enters its next event as a first-time participant.

Scheduled to play in the event last season before the Covid-19 pandemic cancelled the remainder of the spring season, Morehead State's appearance in the 2020-21 Spring Break Shootout field marks the program's first.

The Eagles enter off an 18th-place finish in a 41-team field at the Kiawah Island Classic as the Eagles claimed one top-50 finisher with two more knocking on the door in the 210-player field. Olivia Hensley led Morehead State by tying for 46th while MacKenzie Neal and Gypsie Hutchinson nearly cracked the top-50, tying for 51st.

Play at the Spring Break Shootout begins Monday at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.

NOTABLE
  • Olivia Hensley concluded the Kiawah Island Classic tied for tenth in the field in Par-5 scoring, finishing three-under for the tournament on Par-5s, averaging 4.77 strokes per Par-5. It marks the second time in as many events to start her career that she has finished in the top-10 in a tournament field in Par-5 scoring.
  • In Sunday's opening round, Hensley also carded one of 24 total eagles at the Kiawah Island Classic, doing so on the Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Cougar Point's Par-5 ninth hole. Her eagle is the first for an Eagle since MacKenzie Neal's hole-in-one at the Mid-American Challenge on Feb. 3, 2020.
  • Carding 38 total pars this week, Neal tied for ninth in the Kiawah Island Classic field in pars. The event marks the second-consecutive in which she's finished top-10 in the field in pars, carding 79 total pars this season.
  • Gypsie Hutchinson paced Morehead State in Par-4 Scoring at the Kiawah Island Classic, finishing three-over for the tournament in Par-4s, tying for seventh in the field. Neal who tied for 19th at six-over on Par-4s joined her in the top-20 in the field.
  • Hutchinson's opening-round 71 marked the third-lowest round for an Eagle this season while being the third individual round below par for the team this season. Hensley's second-round 73 tied for the lowest round of her young career.
