Summary

Manchester United could move into the top six with a win over Burnley in the final game of 2021 tonight.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are undefeated in four games in all competitions but have only scored one goal in each match and have kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 Premier League home games.

United have not been outside the top six on New Year’s Day for 32 years.

Meanwhile, Burnley are desperate for a win to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

Their only victory this campaign came two months ago against Brentford and they need points to put distance between themselves, Newcastle and Norwich at the foot of the table.

Team news

Bruno Fernandes misses out due to suspension following his fifth booking of the season against Newcastle.

Victor Lindelof has tested positive for COVID-19 while Paul Pogba is still recovering from his thigh injury. There are doubts over Scott McTominay’s fitness.

As for Burnley, forward Maxwel Cornet has an “outside chance” of playing after a thigh issue, according to manager Sean Dyche.

Other absentees are likely to include: Ashley Barnes, Connor Roberts and Dale Stephens.

That's it from Old Trafford. A relatively simple 90 minutes for United as they pick up three points and move closer to that all-important Champions League spot. They're now four points behind Arsenal in fourth.

As for Burnley they remain in the relegation zone but do have games in hand over teams above them. That's a wrap on the action in the Premier League for 2021! See you in the new year. Thanks for following the blog as always!

Close for Tarkowski, as he heads just wide from a corner. Had that have gone in, it could have sparked some drama for these last few minutes!

Four goals in 45 minutes. Excellent viewing so far for the neutral, not so brilliant if you're a Burnley fan. Although Lennon really rolled back the years with that finish. McTominay opened the scoring with a curled finish, Sancho thought he doubled United's lead but his strike was deflected off Mee's toe and into the back of the net. That went down as an own goal. Then Ronaldo made it three after Hennessey made a great save to deny McTominay his second, but the Portuguese striker was there to get the rebound. The second half is next!
