A winter storm warning is in effect for the Greater Sudbury area, with Environment Canada warning people about hazardous winter conditions today through to Wednesday morning.

Snow and ice pellets are expected tonight through Wednesday. Between that and snow, a total of 15 to 20 centimetres is anticipated, with the heaviest snow likely Tuesday morning and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Alongside this precipitation will come reduced visibility and possible freezing rain this afternoon and evening. Blowing snow may also accompany the snow leading to reduced visibility, particularly on Tuesday.

Environment Canada is warning people that surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, so they are encouraging people to take extra care when walking or driving.

Ongoing alerts and forecasts will be issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
