Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin was a late scratch in Friday’s game against the Calgary Flames, opening the door for defenceman Erik Gustafsson to make his Canadiens debut.
After not initially disclosing the reason for the lineup changes, the Canadiens announced Drouin would miss the game with a non-COVID-19 related illness.
Drouin has two goals and 23 points in 44 games this season.
The Canadiens acquired Gustafsson from the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline. Last season, he was traded from the Blackhawks to the Flames at the deadline and he appeared in seven games with Calgary before the season ended early due to the pandemic.
