Weather update: Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Summit, Portage, Stark and most  counties in northern and northeast Ohio until 8 p.m. 

A line of strong storms moved through the Akron area around 1 p.m. and drenched the area with heavy rain. In addition to soaking most of northern and northeast Ohio, the storms also packed 60 mph wind gusts and hail. 

A little less than 200 customers were without power in Summit County as of 2 p.m. according to the FirstEnergy outage website, while a little more than 500 were affected in Stark County. 

Power was knocked out Monday in the Belden Village shopping district in Canton as American Electric Power crews tried to complete maintenance work. The outage covered parts of Jackson and Plain townships, as well as North Canton.

With the exit of Monday's storm system, temperatures will cool off considerably for Tuesday with highs in the mid-60s under sunny skies.
