UFC 258 live blog: Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch

This is the UFC 258 live blog for Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch, a middleweight main card bout for Saturday’s fight card at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

Gastelum, the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 17, returns to the octagon in dire need of a turnaround after the biggest skid of his career, a three-fight downturn that most recently ended in a first-round submission loss to Jack Hermansson this past July. Prior to that, he suffered a split call loss to Darren Till and a loss to current champ Israel Adesanya in a 2019 “Fight of the Year” winner contested for the interim belt. Gastelum is currently the No. 9 ranked fighter in the promotion’s top-15 at middlweight. Heinisch, meanwhile, is ranked No. 15. He’s on the rebound after a recent win over Gerald Meerschaert, which snapped a two-fight skid that followed a pair of wins that started his UFC career.
