Cristiano Ronaldo is a name that is almost synonymous with the Ballon d'Or. The Portuguese superstar has won the award five times in the past and been on the podium for more than 10 years in a row. Only Lionel Messi (6) has been declared the winner more times than him in history.

Infact, one of the most iconic moments in the long history of the prize ceremony came during the 2014 ceremony, when Ronaldo after his victory speech shouted 'SIUUU' to send football fans into a frenzy.

The video almost immediately went viral all across social media. While it wasn't entirely clear at the start what Ronaldo did, it was later clarified that it was a scream from Ronaldo's famous celebration.

Prior to his scream, Ronaldo had given a very emotional speech. The Portuguese star had expressed gratitude to various people including his club at the time-Real Madrid, his coaches, teammates, and the club's president.

That year was the third time Ronaldo had won the award. Ronaldo played an integral role in helping Real Madrid win the 'La Decima' and end the club's 11-year Champions League drought.

Ronaldo has also won the Ballon D'or in 2008, 2013, 2016, and 2017. In 2008, he had won while representing and helping Manchester United win the Premier League and Champions League while all the other times he was a Real Madrid player.

In 2021, Ronaldo is not among the favourites to win the award. Six-time winner Lionel Messi along with Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski are being tipped to lift the prestigious award in Monday's ceremony. Chelsea's Jorginho and Real Madrid's Karim Benzema also have an outside chance.

Earlier this year, Ronaldo returned to Manchester United where despite the club's poor start to the season, he has excelled on a personal level. The ex-Juventus man has scored four goals in the Premier League and five in the Champions League so far this season.
