The league is announcing 25 players each of the next three nights as part of its 75th Anniversary Team.
Now the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, Nash received the honour just before his team tipped off the NBA season against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.
Nash was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
In his 18-season playing career, Nash was named the league’s MVP twice and was an eight-time all-star.
The Victoria-raised point guard broke into the league with the Phoenix Suns in 1996 and rejoined the team in 2004 after six seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.
Nash had his most productive years in Phoenix, winning back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and ’06.
Nash played his final season in 2013-14 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Internationally, Nash led Canada to its most recent appearance in the Olympic men’s basketball tournament in 2000 when the upstart Canadians reached the quarterfinals in Sydney.
