La Ronde announced Wednesday evening it has cancelled the opening night of the International des Feux Loto-Québec fireworks competition scheduled for Thursday after a directive from the regional public health authority.

“The other planned shows are maintained until further notice,” it announced via its Facebook page. The amusement park itself remains open.

The first fireworks show was to be an out-of-competition entry, a tribute to boy and girl bands by Royal Pyrotechnie. It is not being rescheduled. The next scheduled show is from Ukraine on Thursday, July 6 at 10 p.m.

Environment Canada issued a smog warning Wednesday for Montreal as wildfire smoke was set to again flow into the city and remain there on Thursday.
