Top of The Pops presenter Sarah Cawood shared an update on her cancer battle as she appeared on The Weakest Link on Friday night (December 30). The 90s TV presenter revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in September.

Sarah, 50, said doctors had detected stage one breast cancer during her first ever routine mammogram. After a biopsy, she was told the lumps in her breast were not normal cysts and she said she had sleepless nights worrying that she would not be able to watch her children - Hunter, ten, and nine-year-old Autumn - grow up.

Appearing on the BBC quiz show on Friday, Sarah revealed she was playing for a charity close to her heart. After winning the £6,000 jackpot, she said: "It's going to Breast Cancer Now a charity close to my heart because I'm currently having treatment for breast cancer."

Viewers were shocked as they said they hadn't realised she had been diagnosed. They also wished her good luck for her treatment.

Sarah will have to undergo a lumpectomy to remove the growth and will also have radiotherapy and need to take a hormone blocker "for five to ten years".

Sarah rose to fame in the 90s while hosting several TV shows – from Top of the Pops to The Girlie Show and Live & Kicking. She also hosted BBC Three's Eurovision coverage back in 2010.

Sarah is now a podcaster, living in Leigh-on-Sea with her husband Andy Merry and her two children. She is also an Independent Scentsy Consultant.

She previously spoke out about how she wished she had got her breasts out more when she was younger but claimed her ex Bluetones' guitarist Adam Devlin wouldn't let her.
