Hi all,

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Thank you.

Please fix this asap, and please ensure better quality control and testing for updates that brick an entire product.

It wasn't due to an upgrade. On the community it is said that a certificate is past due.

So they need to make sure that these certificates do not expire, either way there was negligence that has affected 1000s (probably much more) customers.

Only in 2015 they sold 20 million units

Yes, so may be Google just wants all of us to by the new version ?

never, 1st make noise at social media, 2nd never more buy anything from google

Due to one temporary issue with one product? Entitled much?

It's where you voice your concerns. How do you know how temp it is? And it's now more products? We live way too much in a throw away world. These things should work well beyond what they do. Long gone are the days of tv repairmen. These companies literally force you to buy new products when the existing generations are more than capable. I have several of the newest. I like gadgets. But I still use old gens for specific things. I should be able to rely on them. As they are bought and paid for and certainly don't belong in a landfill quite yet. So who's entitled. The company that solders motherboards so you can't upgrade them or the customer who complains a little when things that should work don't? Man I would not want to live in your perfect world, money must flow around in the wind.

I dont undertand anything

Well said mate. 100% agree with your comments. And they have the Gaul to tell us to do what we can to limit landfill.

This! My 1st gen was working a week ago, now it isn't supported anymore! They are phasing out all Chromecast products...there's info about it online.

Oh no! I still have a dumb (but otherwise very functional) TV!

I just ordered a Roku for $17 on Amazon just we'll miss being able to cast my phone and tablet to my TV screen I loved Chromecast. I don't know why they're dismantling it. I guess just like everything else, tear it  all down and buy expensive new version.

Or you could just wait for the fix … seriously , go play outside , read a book .

I ordered an Amazon fire stick. It will go back if they actually do resolve the issue within 30 days.

Why wouldn't you be able to cast your phone onto Roku?  My iPhone works just fine on Roku using AirPlay.

I did the same, bought Roku from Amazon. Glad I didn’t wait since it’s now Wednesday and they still don’t have a fix.  The lack of customer service is going to kill their future goggle tv sales.

Aparentemente no, yo intente conectar mi chromecast audio varias veces y no podia. pense que era un tema de configuracion.

Where did you read about this online?

You said everything I wanted to

If you want an old TV that doesn't rely on software, go buy one. If you want an awesome device that lets you cast audio/video to any receiver in your house you might have to suffer an outage every 10 years or so. Google is acknowledging the issue and communicating their progress toward a resolution. Look up what happened at Sonos last year for an example of how much worse a company could be handling this. If you boycott every company after a single disruption on a few of their devices, you'll not only end up boycotting everything but you'll also be on blood pressure meds forever. Do yourself a favor and chill bro

Someones brown nosing to get the alpha version of the fix huh? 🤣🤣🤣

love ur screen name bro

they are handling it extremely bad if you ask me it doesn't take a week to fix this. its because their phasing out Chromecast due to google tv streamer being released they even stated they would gradually do away with Chromecast. id say it isnt a update because they could just roll it back instead i was reading they let the certification go out. which is negligence on their own end. also quit bashing on people who have older tvs. like the economy is in shambles and your first instinct is go buy a new tv or a 3rd gen Chromecast LOL. companies like this should be held accountable. its already a super company.

Well said!

It cost 35 bucks and it came out a decade ago.   I'm not into the planned obsolescence and disposable nature of most things today but the expectations on this are really out of skew with reality..

Exatamente isso!!!

You must be new to Google! Welcome.

It cost like $35 and it came out a decade ago.   Why be so dramatical?  I'm shocked they still even service it on their end...lol.

Did you expect that little plastic disc to work for 25 years?   I know ive already gotten the value for the amount of money I paid for mine and then some.

I have been looking for a solution "Chromast Audio", but not for iPhone, but for Android. All I can find on foreign websites is an alternative  for Airplay, and I am afraid that won't work in an evironment Window laptop, netword, Android phone. Any advise? Would appreciate it.

Wiim Pro.  Available on Amazon but isn't cheap.  I have not used it but it has good reviews.

I just bought a WiiM Pro. Gives all the functionality of a Chromecast Audio and more.  They're a little pricey, but not so bad when you consider that it's high-quality audio gear, and offers more functionality than the original Chromecast Audio does.

I listen to streamed music every day on my Chromecast Audio.  Folks are saying that this is a difficult situation for Google to resolve, and it will take them from a week to a month to resolve.

I'm just not willing to wait that long, and don't want to put my future listening pleasure in the hands of Google, who couldn't even make sure their certificates remain current...

Look at the Wiim product line.  The product works very well as a repacement for Chromecast Audio

If you're just casting ripped CDs or similar, try VLC. It's working for me. I think it simply doesn't bother checking the devices certificate.
