Moyes: 'Extremely satisfying'

David Moyes spoke to the BBC after the win: "Extremely satisfying. They're really good. They played very well last weekend and well today.

"We hung in there at times, we were resolute. Even at 10 men we stuck in and got another goal.

"I didn't think we played well in the first half. We got a goal from a James Ward-Prowse assist. We know he's always capable of that. We never played when we got the ball after that and they dominated.

"We tried to get closer to them in the second half and we did. We stuck at it, did the basics well and got the three points.

"We've always been not bad at (set pieces). You can't score without good deliveries. Hopefully (Ward-Prowse) will bring the good deliveries. Good start for him today.

"I told (Michail Antonio) it was a brilliant finish, a centre forward's goal.

"Chelsea are a really good side. I'd be surprised if they're not challenghging the top teams.

"The crowd helped today. We're just back from Prague. They'll need to stick with us. We have a few things we need to improve.

"I have no doubt we'll probably get another couple of players in before the window."

Pochettino: 'We should have won the game with our first half'

Mauricio Pochettino to Sky Sports after the defeat: "That's football. Teams like us, we need to get the right balance. I think today there were a few actions we didn't manage well and we concede. We create many chances and we did well in the first half. We should have won the game with our first half.

"In the second half with another isolated action we concede again. To find the space to create clear chances (is difficult) but overall it is this type of game that is difficult to explain. You had the possession, you create and maybe you were the better side but in the end you lose.

"It was the frustration when we miss the penalty. We were playing well and we didn't get the reward. We start the second half a little bit with this belief until we started again to play. Also the injury to Carney Chukwuemeka changed a little bit the shape of the team. Then we start again to dominate the game but again we concede. We need to be more strong in this type of situation because we knew West Ham sit deep and counter-attack and set pieces are really dangerous.

"Disappointed, but this is only the beginning. We need to believe in the process. I think we are going to be stronger and for sure be really competitive."

Ward-Prowse: 'A special day'

James Ward-Prowse spoke to Sky Sports after the win: "It was pretty good (performance), just a direct free kick missing and a dream debut for me on a personal note.

"It is a special day and first of many, hopefully more to come."

On his set pieces: "It is big strength of mine and when this place was empty we practiced and then the pressure is on to perform on the big stage.

"You can feel the stadium pick up in energy when we get a set piece and we have big boys in the box.

"If the ball is right and the run's right, there you go, you take a goal every day of the week.

"Every set piece we get there is an opportunity.

"We went up against a very good team, and we showed some real resilience."

On the pressure of replacing Declan Rice: "Everyone knows the impact what Declan Rice did for this club. I have come in here and have to show what James Ward-Prowse can bring to the club and that's my mentality."

Moyes bests Pochettino

On his sixth attempt, David Moyes has beaten Mauricio Pochettino in the Premier League for the first time, after drawing four and losing one the first five times they met.

Last season, Chelsea lost 10 of their 19 away Premier League games, their most in a season since 1997-98.

Their first away match of the new season was more of the same.

Moises Caicedo is just the second player to give away a penalty on his Premier League debut for Chelsea, after Wayne Bridge did so against Liverpool in August 2003.

Set pieces were decisive

The game came down to set pieces. There is such a thin line between success and failure in the Premier League.

Chelsea have long way to go, but they have loads of promise I believe.

David Moyes' second stint in charge of West Ham is up to four years, four years of the same ways and routines regardless of the players.

Chelsea have now won just five of their past 31 Premier League matches (D11 L15).

Their only win in their last 14 games was a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth in May.

This win will give West Ham a lot of confidence. A positive performance and Alphonse Areola was superb and deserves to be No 1. His penalty save was the turning point.

Brilliant debut from James Ward-Prowse who will only continue to impress. More additions and this team will be on fire.

James Ward-Prowse assisted both of West Ham's goals today.

He has now provided 25 assists from dead-ball situations in the Premier League, tied with Christian Eriksen for the most of any player since his debut in 2012-13.

Ward-Prowse is also the first player to get two assists on his West Ham debut in the Premier League.
