Full match player ratings below:
Kepa—6: A very quiet night for the Spanish goal keeper who mostly helped in facilitating the ball out of the back. Will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet.
Vinicius Tobias—6: Showed flashes of his talent with the ball, dribbling out of tight situations. Had a few mistimed tackles and wayward passes.
Alvaro Carrillo—7: Looked the part— played the offsides line well and was quick and efficient on the ball. Swept up a few counter-attacks and formed a good pair with Nacho.
Nacho—7: Professional performance from the Real Madrid captain. Took the game seriously and was important in building out from the back.
Fran Garcia—6: Was exploited 1 v 1 at the end of the match leading to Arandina’s goal but otherwise had little to do. Overlapped on a few occasions and had some decent crosses into the box.
Dani Ceballos—6: Fed Fran Garcia twice with two long passes in between the center back and fullback. Stayed close to the backline to help build-out in possession.
Eduardo Camavinga—7: Looked fit on his return from injury. Had a number of dribbling sequences that broke Arandina’s pressure and drew a foul.
Nico Paz—4: Disappointing performance from the teenager. Did not look himself and had a number of heavy touches and misplaced passes.
Brahim Diaz—9: Drew the penalty that led to Madrid’s first goal, minutes later scored the second with a clinical volley, and helped set-up the third goal for Rodrygo.
Arda Guler—8.5: The hype was there for a reason. This kid is a special talent. Despite having not played a competitive match for 7 months, the 18-year-old was the best player on the pitch in the first half. Nearly scored after his direct free kick hit the post and had a right-footed cross that Nico Paz should have headed into the back of the net. Every touch and movement was silky — Madrid have a fun and exciting player on their hands.
Joselu—6: Scored his penalty with supreme precision, burying it in the bottom corner. Had little involvement in the team’s overall play and skied a good opportunity over the bar.
Substitutions:
Fede Valverde—7: Played well from the center midfield position and gave rest to Camavinga after 60 minutes.
Rodrygo—7: Half the time he was on the field, it looked like he was frozen and hated the cold. Despite that fact, he managed to get on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal from inside the box.
Mario Martin—7: Played both center midfield and center back, produced a lovely outside of the boot pass to on an on-running Rodrygo. One of the bright spots from the Castilla crew.
Alvaro Rodriguez—N/A: Late substitution with Ancelotti finishing the game with a two-man strike force of Joselu and Alvaro.
