Kevin Hart has issued an impassioned plea to people over 40 to "respect" their age after he suffered serious injuries that have left him needing a wheelchair.

The 44-year-old comic joked that he is "the dumbest man alive" as he took to his Instagram page on Wednesday after trying to partake in "young man stuff."

Explaining exactly what had happened, Kevin said that he was with his friend Stevan Ridley when they decided to race one another.
Stevan, 34, is a decade younger than Kevin and a former NFL running back, but Kevin bet him that he is still a faster runner.

In order to settle the debate, the two took part in a "40 yard dash," which resulted in Kevin tearing his lower abdomen and abductors, and he is currently unable to walk.

And Kevin believes that his age is a large factor in how he got so seriously injured from the race, starting off his video with: "Ladies and gentlemen, the age 40 is real. To all my men, women out there that are 40 years old or above, it's not a game. Respect that age, or that age will make you respect it. I was just forced to respect."

The star then revealed that he is sitting in a wheelchair, and said that he was making the video so as not to worry anybody when he is spotted out and about.

"I know people will see me out, and I don't want you to be alarmed, but I'm in a wheelchair," he explained. "Why? Well because I tried to go out there and do some young man stuff, and I was told to sit my ass down."

Detailing the race, Kevin then added: "Guys, I blew all my shit. Tore my lower abdomen, my abductors; I don't even know what that is, but I tore them, too. I can't walk. Sit my ass down, this is 44."

Seemingly unable to believe that he'd agreed to the race, Kevin asked: "What are we competing for at this age? What am I doing? Why did I even race? Stupidest shit ever, now I can't walk."

"What was I thinking?" Kevin went on. "God, got to be the stupidest man alive."

But the star was accepting as he concluded the video, telling his 178 million followers: "It is what it is, man. This is life. I'm out."
Reiterating his regret, Kevin captioned the social media post: "44 and sitting my ass down!!!!! I got to be the dumbest man alive!!!!! What the fuck am I doing???? I blew my shit….I’m done. FML"

Needless to say, Kevin has been inundated with well wishes from his followers, including his celebrity friends.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson couldn't resist cracking a joke as he commented: "[I] tore my adductor off my pelvis during a wrestling match. True story. You’ll be fine. You’ll grow a 3rd ball but you’ll be fine 😂 Heal up 💪🏾"

While Will Smith was sympathetic, writing: "Getting older is REAL!! Heal Up, Kev!!"

And Wanda Sykes issued a playful warning as she wrote: "If 44 is kicking yo ass..wait til you hit 55…you might just disintegrate. Get well dummy!❤️"

Although Kevin is clearly feeling the repercussions of his competitive streak at the moment, he is actually incredibly fit and active and often shares Instagram videos of himself working out or playing sports.
In fact, earlier this month Kevin was bragging about being able to keep up with the youngsters as he joked about beating his 15-year-old son Hendrix at a game of tennis.
