The original concept came from George Miller's experience of being an A&E Doctor i believe so he saw a lot of car/bike accidents and injuries. Its meant to show the slow decline of Max's mental state, resulting in him going mad.
Is Mad Max 1 or 2 better?
Second one is a far, far better film. It's technically proficient, with more actual car action segments. There's some actual character development, with Max evolving from completely indifferent at the beginning to having a bit more of a heart at the end (similar to FR in that sense).
