
Commonwealth Games 2022 Highlights, Day 2 Schedule of India: Mirabai Chanu bossed the 49kg field as expected to defend her Commonwealth Games title and give India the first gold medal of the Birmingham edition on Saturday. The Olympic silver medallist aggregated a total of 201kg (88kg + 113kg) to stamp her authority in the competition and achieve a Commonwealth Games record in the process. Meanwhile, Bindyarani Devi won the silver medal in the Women’s 55kg category, raising India’s medal tally to 4.
Partially fulfilling the promise he made to himself four years back, young weightlifter Sanket Sargar won a silver medal in men’s 55kg category, putting India on the medal tally at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. Meanwhile, weightlifter Gururaja Poojary clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 61kg category at the Commonwealth Games, adding to India’s tally.
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (70kg) cruised to the quarterfinals of the women’s light middle weight category with an easy 5-0 win against Ariana Nicholson at the Commonwealth Games while the Indian Women’s hockey team defeated Wales 3-1. In a major upset, defending champions India, led by star paddler Manika Batra, crashed out of the women’s table tennis team event after losing to Malaysia 3-2 in the quarterfinals.

She is doing it in style. The gulf of difference clearly visible in the women's 49kg category as Mirabai lifts 113kg after having sealed the gold already for India in her first attempt.
In her first Clean & Jerk attempt, Mirabai Chanu lifts 109kg and wins the first gold for India at the Commonwealth Games!
Manika Batra had won the first two games and had the lead in the third. Ho Ying clawed her way back into this one. The decider was 3-3 which is when Batra turned on the dominater mode and won it 3-11. India back in the tie, 1-1.
Ho Ying wins the 3rd and the 4th game to make comeback after losing the first two. Pressure on Manika Batra and India now.

India's Nitendra Singh Rawat finished 12th in the men's marathon race in the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. The 35-year-old Rawat clocked 2 hour 19 minutes and 22 seconds in the race won by Uganda's Victor Kiplangat (2:10:55).
Ahead of CWG2022, Indian weightlifting coach Vijay Sharma told The Indian Express that he is expecting 11-12 medals. After Sanket Sagar and P Gururaja already delivered, expectations are high from Mirabai Chanu, the overwhelming favourite for 49kg gold. (READ MORE)
Malaysian weightlifting changed the coach and got in Indonesian Yon Hariyano. Indonesians are the best lifters in south east Asia (top SEA Games), so our lifters were based out of there and got the best sparring from training with Indonesians. New coach changed whole program, diet, supplements, nutrition and that's helped: Shahrul Zaman Yahya, Chef de Mission of Malaysia, after two CWG records and two gold from as many categories in first session at Birmingham Games

A see-saw of a fight between the India's Gururaja Poojary and Canada’s Youri Simard! Gururaja smarts the Canadian by 1kg more as he lifts 151kg in his third attempt in Clean & Jerk, finishing with a total of 269kgs in the Men's 61kg final. A BRONZE MEDAL FOR GURURAJA!
Poojary follows his 144Kg successful first attempt with a 148Kg lift in his second. Finishes with a 151Kg lift!

Sanket Mahadev Sargar's silver medal will be displayed at family-run tea stall says father Mahadev, just like his sister Kajol's Khelo India medal was.

"In the 75th year of independence, I dedicate this medal to the freedom fighters who gave us freedom," says India's Sanket Sargar after winning his silver in Men's 55Kg Weightlifting final.
With Sanket Mahadev Sargar’s silver medal, India opens its account in the medal tally and stands at the ninth position in the medal tally list.
The Malaysian Aniq bin Kasdan booms for the gold with that final C&J lift of 142 kg, also a Games record. Sargar has to settle for a silver. Misses out on the gold by the barest of margins, 1Kg.

The duo of Satwik and Ashwini winning the first match by 21-14, 21-9 and Lakshya Sen winning the second 21-18, 21-5 means a Aakarshi Kashyap has the opportunity to seal the tie against Sri Lanka in the third match.
