The Rajasthan Police on Friday arrested two more accused for the murder of Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal on June 28, with officials saying they were involved in the conspiracy to plan and execute the crime. The two main accused in the case, Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad, who filmed a video after the murder of Lal, were sent to the high security jail in Ajmer late on Thursday night. “We have arrested two more accused, Asif Hussain and Mohsin Khan. They have been found to be involved in the abetment of the crime. Both are residents of Udaipur,” Anti-Terrorism Squad ADG Ashok Rathore told The Indian Express on Friday.
The BJP Minority Morcha in Rajasthan on Saturday refuted the allegation levelled by the Congress that the main accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case in Udaipur was a BJP member. After a photo showing Riaz Akhtari with some local BJP leaders of Udaipur emerged, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, state president of the BJP Minority Morcha, said the photo cannot be a held as a proof to show he is a party member. “Anyone can have a photo with any leader. It does not mean that he is a member of the BJP,” Sadiq told reporters.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Forum (JNUTF) Saturday condemned the murder of a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur, saying the horrific killing is indicative of a larger social malaise.

JNUTF also condemns the forces responsible for supporting any such elements directly or indirectly. The Banaskantha district administration in Gujarat on Saturday asserted that an order issued on the letter pad of Vaghasan group village panchayat prohibiting shopkeepers from buying goods from "Muslim hawkers" as a protest against the murder of a tailor in Udaipur in neighbouring Rajasthan was without any authority.
Banaskantha District Development Officer Swapnil Khare said the person who has signed the order on the letter pad of the Vaghasan group gram panchayat does not have the authority to do so as the panchayat is currently under an administrator and an election for the post of sarpanch is due.
"The administrator has issued a clarification stating the letter issued is baseless and nobody needs to follow this. Legal action will be taken against those spreading rumours," Khare said. Vaghasan village is located close to the Gujarat-Rajasthan border in Tharad taluka of the district. (PTI)
Four people, including functionaries of the VHP and Bajrang Dal, failed to appear before the police here on Saturday in connection with the alleged raising of provocative slogans during a protest against the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur, officials said.
Hindu outfits like the VHP and Bajrang Dal have been holding protests in various parts of the country against the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal on Tuesday by two men who said they were avenging an insult to Islam.
Ajit Singh, district president of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Yashwant Shekhawat, district minister of the outfit, Abhishek Gaur, district convenor of Bajrang Dal and BJP's former executive district president Kulbhushan Bhardwaj were issued notice under Section 41 of CrPC to appear at the city police station at 11 am on Saturday to join the investigation, but none of them appeared, they said. Police are now preparing to issue a second notice for Monday. (PTI)
The district administration here on Saturday relaxed for four hours the curfew imposed in seven police station areas in the wake of the killing of a tailor, officials said.
Mobile internet services, however, remained suspended. With the situation gradually returning to normal, the curfew will be relaxed for 10 hours on Sunday, the officials said.

Several shops and commercial establishments were shut in major cities of Chhattisgarh on Saturday amid the statewide bandh called by right-wing organisations to protest the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur.
While essential services were not involved in the bandh, schools and colleges were shut in some cities, including capital Raipur, and public transport was off roads at various places. According to the police, the bandh was observed peacefully and no untoward incident was reported so far from any part of the state.
The Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the largest trade body in the state, also supported the bandh called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, and appealed to businessmen to keep their establishments, barring those engaged in selling essentials, shut till 2 pm. The Congress on Saturday alleged that one of the main accused in the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur is a "BJP member" and asked whether the Centre had moved quickly to transfer the case to the NIA due to this reason.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters here, party's media department head Pawan Khera said a very sensational disclosure has been made by a media group in connection with the Udaipur incident which pointed to the BJP links with Riyaz Attari. Some reports have also referred to the accused as Riaz Akhtari.
"The killer of Kanhaiya Lal, Riyaz Attari is a member of the BJP," Khera said in a tweet after the press conference. Earlier in the day, responding to a tweet by a Congress leader referring to one of the accused's alleged BJP links, BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya dismissed the claim as "fake news". (PTI)
Teams from the National Investigation Agency and the Anti-Terrorism Squad on Saturday presented the four men arrested in the Udaipur tailor's murder case before a court here.
Prior to this, a police team from Jaipur took the accused -- Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad and their accomplices Asif and Mohseen -- to the office of the ATS' Special Operations Group. According to sources, the NIA has collected all documentary evidences from the ATS.

The district administration here has relaxed the curfew, imposed in seven police station limits in the aftermath of a tailor's murder by radical elements recently, for four hours from 12 pm, an official said.
Kanhaiya Lal was hacked to death on Tuesday allegedly by two men for extending support on social media to a controversial remark against Prophet Mohammad by now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
The two alleged killers were arrested hours later in Rajsamand.
"Curfew has been relaxed from 12 pm to 4 pm on Saturday," a district administration officer said.
It was imposed in Dhan Mandi, Ghanta Ghar, Hathi Pole, Amba Mata, Suraj Pole, Bhupalpura and Savina police station areas on Tuesday night.
The decision was taken after reviewing the situation. With peaceful conduct of the Jagannath Rath Yatra on Friday, in which thousands of people took part, the administration has decided to give a relaxation today, official sources said. (PTI)
One person was arrested in Assam's Hailakandi district under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly supporting the brutal killing of a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur last month, police said on Friday.
Samsul Laskar of Katlicherra area of the district was arrested after he allegedly supported the killing of the tailor in his comment made on a social media post and Hailakandi's Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Milan Das filed a police complaint against him.
Das, in his complaint, accused Laskar of making the comment on a post by a person named Abu Choudhury who demanded capital punishment for the culprits involved in the murder of Kanhaiya Lal, police said.
The police arrested Laskar on Thursday and registered a case against him under various sections of the IPC and the UAPA. (PTI)
The Rajasthan government on Friday night suspended Udaipur Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Meena.
The suspension order issued by Joint Secretary (Police) of the home department Jagveer Singh does not mention any reason of the action.
However, it is believed that he was suspended for negligence in the matter of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, who was earlier threatened and then brutally murdered by two cleaver-wielding men over a controversial post on Tuesday.

Paramhans Das, the priest of Ayodhya's Tapasvi Chhawani temple, on Friday burnt a poster of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi over his alleged provocative remarks and warned "anti-national" leaders that tomorrow it will be them instead of the poster.
He also targeted Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for not visiting the party-ruled Rajasthan where a tailor was hacked to death by two men to avenge an "insult to Islam".
Accusing All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Owaisi of making inflammatory statements, Das said such statements are increasing terrorist activities.
"All anti-national leaders should come to their senses. Today the poster was burnt, tomorrow (they) will be burnt alive," he said.

THE NATIONAL Investigation Agency (NIA) has found that the killing of Kanhaiyalal Teli in Udaipur was “meticulously planned” and “instigated” by a person in Pakistan identified as “Salman bhai” who told one of the accused, Mohammad Ghouse, that he “must do something spectacular” in response to the remarks on the Prophet since “peaceful protests will not yield any result”, The Indian Express has learnt.
Both Ghouse and Muhammad Riyaz Atari, who was seen in a video attacking Kanhaiyalal with a cleaver, had participated in the protests early last month against remarks on the Prophet made by BJP’s Nupur Sharma who was subsequently suspended by the party.
According to sources, Ghouse had gone to Pakistan in December 2014 to attend a 45-day programme on the invitation of Dawat-e-Islami, a “Pakistan-based radical Islamic organisation”. They said that after returning in January 2015, he joined a few WhatsApp groups and was in touch with “Salman bhai” and another person, identified as Abu Ibrahim, in Pakistan. (Read More)
Two days after members of Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a protest in Gurgaon demanding stringent punishment for the accused in the murder of a tailor, Kanhaiya Lal, in Udaipur, Gurgaon police have booked the organisers of the rally for allegedly raising abusive slogans and promoting enmity between communities.
On Wednesday, at least 80 people had assembled at Nehru Park around 5 pm and marched towards Sadar Bazar before dispersing at Harish Bakery chowk. Protesters had burnt an effigy of ‘Islamic Jihad terrorism’. In purported videos of the rally, protesters could be heard raising provocative slogans against the Muslim community near Jama Masjid, as well as shouting ‘desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro saalon ko’. The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra began in Udaipur on Friday amid heavy security arrangements, three days after a tailor was brutally murdered in the city triggering communal tensions.
Special permission was given by the district administration to take out the procession as a curfew was clamped in seven police station areas on Tuesday night following the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal.
Thousands of people attended the procession, which is expected to take several hours to cover its 7-km-long route.
Around 3,000 policemen have been deployed in the city to maintain law and order. ADG Dinesh M N, who is camping in Udaipur, said the deployment of policemen for the yatra this year is three times higher than the previous occasions. (PTI)

Members of the Jain community on Friday demanded more security for a resident of an Udaipur locality mentioned in the video clip posted by the alleged killers of tailor Kanhaiya Lal.
They met the district collector and handed over a memorandum pressing for enhanced security for tyre trader Nitin Jain and his family, who live in Sector 11.

Two more people from Udaipur have been arrested in Kanhaiya Lal's murder case on Friday. They have been arrested for being involved in planning and execution of the plot to kill Lal.

In a major reshuffle in Rajasthan, 32 IPS officers including Inspector General (IG) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udaipur, where a tailor was brutally killed, have been transferred, according to the state department of personnel.
Kanhaiya Lal was killed Tuesday afternoon by two cleaver-wielding men, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, who posted a grisly video of the crime online claiming responsibility for the “beheading”.
SPs of 10 districts including Udaipur have been transferred in the list issued by the department late on Thursday night.
Udaipur IG Hinglaj Dan was removed and posted as IG civil rights. Praful Kumar, IG ATS was made the new IG of Udaipur.
At the same time, SP Udaipur Manoj Kumar was transferred to second battalion of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) in Kota.
Vikas Kumar, who was Ajmer SP, will now take charge of the new SP in Udaipur.

BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari on Thursday demanded the resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accusing him of failing to protect the people of the state, two days after a tailor was brutally murdered in Udaipur city.

The newly-elected Rajya Sabha MP said the Congress government in the state has an “anti-Hindu” mindset and believes in politics of appeasement.
"People have lost faith in the current regime following the Udaipur incident. This is an anti-Hindu government," Tiwari told reporters at a press conference here.
Rajasthan shares its border with Pakistan and this incident not only exposes the failure of the state's intelligence system but also attests to the fact that the Congress government is incapable of maintaining law and order and protecting people, he said. (PTI)

Police in Rajasthan's Ajmer have arrested three people, including a cleric, for delivering a hate speech in which they allegedly called for beheading to avenge the insult to Prophet Mohammad, officials said.
Police are suspecting that the hate speech delivered from the main entry gate of the Ajmer dargah on June 17 could have played a role in provoking the two people who murdered a tailor in Udaipur on Tuesday as the duo raised the same slogan that was chanted during the speech, sources in the police department said.
Dargah police station SHO Dhanveer Singh identified the three arrested men as Fakar Jamali, a cleric, Riyaz and Tazim. They were held on Wednesday night, he said.
Ajmer Superintendent of Police Vikas Sharma said the main accused Gohar Chisti is absconding and being searched.
"They (the arrested) were present with Gohar Chisti during the hate speech which was delivered from the Nizam gate of the Ajmer dargah," SHO Singh said.
The rally on June 17 was taken out against the controversial remark by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Shortly before the rally began, Gohar and others addressed the gathering and allegedly called for avenging the insult to the Prophet. (PTI)
About 3 km from the market in Udaipur where Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, was hacked to death on Tuesday, is a small general store, on the ground floor of a two-storey house in Raza Colony. The shop is locked, as is the house. Two police constables stand guard outside. Both the shop and the house belong to Ghouse Mohammad, one of the two men who killed Lal.
The colony is part of the larger Khanjipeer locality in Udaipur, a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood. Neighbours said that Ghouse, in his 30s, mostly kept to himself. “He was deeply religious. He kept to himself. We never heard his name being associated with any sort of violence,” said Mohammed Rafique, a resident.
Mohammed Umar, another neighbour, said Ghouse, a father of two, was earlier a “collection agent” with an investment agency. “Many people from this locality would make daily recurring deposits with him. After the company got entangled in allegations of fraud, many lost their money. Thereafter, he, along with his father, opened a general store,” he said. (Read More)
A local court on Thursday sent the two men accused of killing a tailor here to 14-day judicial custody for an identification parade, an official said.
The accused, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, who allegedly murdered Kanhaiya Lal in his shop on Tuesday, were brought in a police van with their faces covered and were produced in the court in the evening amid tight security. The official said that the court sent both the accused to judicial custody.
Public prosecutor Kapil Todawat told reporters that the police, while reserving their right to seek police remand, sought judicial custody for the accused for identification parade and the court ordered to send them to judicial custody till July 13. (PTI)
Noida Police arrested a 22-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly commenting on a video about the Udaipur killing and praising the assailants.
Station Officer, Expressway station, Sudhir Kumar said the man has been identified as Asif Khan. “Khan liked and commented on a video shared by a news portal on Facebook, wherein the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal was being discussed and which also contained a clipping of the two assailants who were boasting about the ‘beheading’. Khan commented ‘bohot badhiya kiya mere bhai (well done my brother)’ on the video. His friends on Facebook saw his comment and clicked a screenshot of the same. Special laws like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) are "necessary" so that action can be taken against terrorists and those "who behead other people," Union minister R K Singh said on Thursday.
In his address at the opening of a national conference here on 'Human Rights in Indian Culture and Philosophy', he also said one has to have legislations like UAPA, and some people have to be detained, to "protect the lives of others".
His comments come in the backdrop of two men getting booked under the UAPA in Rajasthan's Udaipur for murdering a tailor there. Some reports said that the tailor was beheaded by the duo. (PTI)

The NIA is looking into the role of "local self-radicalised" groups and other linkages of the two prime accused in the brutal killing of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli, officials said on Thursday.
The federal agency is waiting to get the custody of Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad so that it can begin their questioning as part of the case registered against them under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Indian Penal Code.
The NIA said the two wanted to "strike terror among the masses across the country" through the gruesome act. The duo had posted videos online claiming responsibility for the attack and also issued a threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (PTI)
Prime accused in the Udaipur beheading case were presented at the Udaipur district session court in Rajasthan today.
Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad, accused of hacking tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli to death in Udaipur, allegedly told him that he has “no right to live”, as he has “written against the Prophet.”
As per the FIR lodged by Kanhaiya’s son Yash Teli, 20, he was informed by a relative about the attack on his father around 3.30 pm on Tuesday.
Yash runs a separate shop in Udaipur’s Hiran Magri area. “When I reached the spot, his bloodied body was lying outside the shop. It had injury marks from a sharp object on his neck, face and left hand,” Yash said. (Read More)

VHP president Alok Kumar on Thursday said the murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal is the result of religious extremism, and demanded prompt justice for the bereaved family.
Addressing a protest rally organised by the Bajrang Dal here, Kumar called upon the Muslim community to understand the current flow of time and rectify its ideology. "They will also have to take care that madrassas and other institutions are not used as nurseries of terrorism," he added. (PTI)
The family of Kanhaiya Lal Teli, the tailor who was hacked to death in Udaipur on June 28, has demanded police security.

Thousands of people took part in a silent march in Udaipur to protest against the killing of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur who was killed by two men over a post in which he supported former BJP leader Nupur Sharma amid the Prophet remark row.
A large number of people belonging to Hindu Organisations took part in the march from Town Hall to the Collectorate called by the 'Sarv Hindu Samaj’.
A large number of police personnel was also deployed during the rally. A minor scuffle took place during the march. The police, however, said the rally was peaceful.
Terming the brutal killing of a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur as an act of terror, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday alleged there was a big international conspiracy behind the incident, and wanted the case to be investigated thoroughly.
All those behind the incident including international organisations should be brought to justice and the guilty must be hanged, he demanded.
"The Udaipur incident is a heinous and inhuman act. It is an act of terror. There is a big international conspiracy behind it and it needs to be investigated and those responsible should be hanged," Bommai said. (PTI)
The Congress on Thursday expressed concern over the "current situation in the country" and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make an appeal to the people to maintain peace and harmony.
Congress leader Alka Lamba also asked why information was not shared with chief ministers on "apprehensions of a foreign hand" in the Udaipur incident.
"The Congress is worried over the current atmosphere prevailing in the country. We urge the prime minister to take the initiative in this regard and come forward to make an appeal for maintaining peace and harmony in the country," she told reporters. (PTI)
Calling the “beheading” of an Udaipur tailor by two men over a controversial social media post as an act of terrorism, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that immediate action by the state government prevented prevented the accused from fleeing.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the Chief Minister said: “During a meeting with the leaders of all political parties yesterday (Wednesday), there was unanimous appreciation for two things — one, that the perpetrators were arrested in time and were not allowed to flee. The second was the kind of action that the state government has taken by registering the case under the UAPA and unearthing links with terrorist organistaions.” (Read More)

Markets remained closed in most of parts of Jaipur on Thursday following a bandh call given by a traders' body and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to protest the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in view of the bandh, officials said, adding that emergency services are exempted. "The bandh is successful. All the markets are closed," a VHP leader claimed. Apart from markets in the walled city, those in other areas, including Khatipura, Vaishali Nagar, Rajapark, Tonk Road, Bajaj Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Sanganer etc. also remained closed.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealed to people to maintain peace even as protests against Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal's killing gained momentum. Gehlot tweeted, "I want to assure you that no criminal will be spared irrespective of any religion or community."
He also appealed to people from different walks of life, including religious leaders and social activists, to help maintain peace in the state.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the full respect of all religions and for ensuring that different communities can live in harmony and peace globally, his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has said amidst communal tensions in Rajasthan after the killing of a tailor in Udaipur.
Dujarric said this in response to a question on whether the UN chief has a comment on the “resurgence” of religious tensions in India following the killing of Kanhaiya Lal. “We very much hope... we call for the full respect of all religions and for ensuring, throughout the world, that different communities can live in harmony and in peace,” Dujarric said at the daily press briefing. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will meet family members of Kanhaiya Lal, who was brutally murdered in Udaipur on Tuesday, even as the curfew continued in the city on Thursday.
The chief minister is scheduled to arrive in Udaipur in a special plane at 1 pm. He will meet the family members, official sources told PTI.
Gehlot will be accompanied by the minister of state for home Rajendra Yadav, chief secretary Usha Sharma, DGP ML Lather and other senior officials, the sources said.

There were 26 injury marks on the body of Kanhaiya Lal, who was brutally killed by two men here, police sources said on Wednesday.
The 46-year-old tailor was attacked by two men with a cleaver on Tuesday.
Police sources informed that 26 injury marks were found in the post-mortem conducted on Wednesday morning.
However, it is not clear whether all the injuries were caused by the cleaver, they said.(PTI)

Two men, identified as Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, allegedly hacked Kanhaiya Lal to death with a cleaver at his shop in Udaipur on Tuesday and posted videos online saying they are avenging an insult to Islam.
One of the two prime accused has links with the Karachi-based Ismalist organisation Dawat-e-Islami and had visited Karachi in 2014, Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan M L Lather told reporters on Wednesday.(PTI)
