Rangers have secured their spot in the hat for the Premier Sports Cup quarter final draw.
The Light Blues have went on to win the league cup competition every time they have met and overcome Queen of the South on their journey, and Gio van Bronckhorst will be hoping that is the case again this term.
It was far from an easy night, with Queen of the South putting up a fight for much of the 90 minutes.
Debutante Robbie Ure marked his first outing with a goal, and it didn't take him long. There were less than ten minutes played when he netted the opener.
But the visitors reacted in the best way they possibly could when Lee Connelly latched onto a messy Sakala back-pass before curling it into McGregor's goal.
But it was Scott Arfield who stepped up to but Rangers back in front pretty sharpish. And with three goals in the first 25 minutes, it looked like the game could be heading in only one direction.
However, the visitors kept the deficit at one as the half time whistle blew. And the scoreline remained the same for the majority of the second 45.
Another from Arfield in the 86th-minute brightened up what had been a scruffy second half as the hosts lost their way after the interval.
It was a forgettable second half, but Gio van Bronckhorst won't be too worried about that with his side getting the job done at Ibrox.
Willie Gibson has much to be chuffed about, despite the result, but is is the home side who secure a spot in the hat for tomorrow's draw which takes place upon completion of the Ross County vs Celtic tie.
