A pleasant surprise on this year’s Best Picture nominees list, director Sarah Polley’s Women Talking might not have stirred the same buzz as its fellow competitors, but it’d be a painful shame to overlook the project based on hype alone. Crafted with a tender but unflinching touch by Polley—also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay—the film is a faithful, courageous re-telling of Miriam Toews’ 2018 book of the same name.

Based on the true story of a Mennonite colony in Bolivia, Women Talking follows eight main characters portrayed by Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Sheila McCarthy, Judith Ivey, Kate Hallett, Liv McNeil, and Michelle McLeod. After discovering many of the colony’s women—and their mothers, sisters, and daughters—have been raped by the men they share homes and families with, a cohort gathers in a hay loft to discuss what to do next: Do they flee the only world they’ve ever known? Do they remain in danger to fight against their husbands and brothers? Or do they ignore the horrific violence inflicted upon them, and try to forgive and forget?

The film is available to stream on multiple platforms, including—for a limited time—as part of Amazon Prime Video’s streaming subscription. From now through midnight EST on Sunday, March 12 (the night of the Oscars), Prime members can stream the film for no additional cost. In the wake of The White Lotus’s season 3 finale, fans are revisiting a moving interview that Walton Goggins, who played Rick Hatchett, gave GQ about his relationship with Thailand. While the actor filmed the HBO series there for seven months, he also had a deeper, emotional history with the country after losing a loved one decades ago.

“I had someone in my life that committed suicide,” Goggins told GQ for its February issue, referring to his wife Leanne Knight, whom the actor was married to from 2001 until her death in 2004. Knight had gone missing, but “ultimately it was revealed the decision that she’d made,” Goggins explained.

“I thought it was really unrecoverable for me. Life on the other side of that,” he said. “I spent the next three years looking for an excuse—not to end it, but certainly putting myself in situations that were questionable, not with drugs or anything like that, just life experiences and traveling. And I really went all over the world.”

His quest for peace, like Rick’s, led him to Thailand. “The first island we were staying on [while filming The White Lotus], I realized, I’ve been on this road before,” he said. “And then the next island we went to, I realized, ‘I’ve definitely been on this beach before. I know this boardwalk.’ And all of the things kept coming back.”

The eerie sense of déjà vu continued when Goggins and The White Lotus crew arrived to film along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. “We pulled up to this dock, and I was like, ‘I know this dock,’” the Emmy nominee said. “Oh my God. That’s the room I stayed in 20 years ago. That’s my balcony. That’s where I was the very first day I came here, 20 years ago, and in so much fucking pain, man.”

“We got out of the boat, and that’s where we were filming, man—all of the equipment was literally right in front of the hotel that I’d picked 20 years ago on the internet, on this little bitty road in this little bitty neighborhood.”

Reflecting on his experience, Goggins added: “I think I haven’t had the time to fully unpack the symmetry between those two people showing up at the same place, separated by 20 years.”

We haven’t yet reached the last of The Last of Us. Ahead of the highly anticipated season 2 premiere on April 13, HBO announced that the hit sci-fi series—based on the popular PlayStation video game franchise—has already been renewed for a third season.

The announcement didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have spent months dropping hints that they would need multiple seasons to adapt the games The Last of Us: Part I and The Last of Us: Part II, and that Part II’s storyline, in particular, would stretch beyond season 2. As Mazin told Deadline in 2024, “We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time to go down interesting pathways, which we did a little bit in season 1, too. Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require season 4.” (Similarly, HBO executive Francesca Orsi told the outlet in February 2025 that “it’s looking like four seasons.”)

Even before these teases, there was little doubt the series would continue as long as necessary. Actress Bella Ramsey, who plays protagonist Ellie Williams, told ELLE in 2023 that she would play the character for as long as HBO wants her. “There’s no limits for me,” Ramsey says. “They can do as many games as they like, as many series as they like, and I’ll be here, flying back out to Canada.”

Mazin also shared his enthusiasm with ELLE, adding that, “To get to the end of the story in the time that we need to take to get to the proper end would be awesome. If I got to work on a set with Bella Ramsey every day for the rest of my life, I’d be thrilled.”

At the time of HBO’s official green light, announced on April 9, 2025, Mazin shared an official statement saying that “the end results” of season 2 “have exceeded even our most ambitious goals,” with Druckmann adding that “we’re thrilled to bring you more of The Last of Us.”

It’s official: Lady Gaga is taking Mayhem on the road with the highly anticipated Mayhem Ball Tour. Supporting her chart-topping album, Gaga is set to hit cities across North America, Europe, and the U.K., marking her first full arena tour since 2018.

“There’s something electric about a stadium, and I love every moment of those shows,” Gaga shared in a statement. “But with The Mayhem Ball, I wanted to create a different kind of experience—something more intimate, closer, more connected—that lends itself to the live theatrical art I love to create.”

Gaga wasn’t initially planning to tour this year, but as she explained on Instagram, the enthusiasm from fans was overwhelming. “The incredible response to the new album inspired me to keep things going. We chose arenas this time to give me the opportunity to control the details of the show in a way you simply can’t in stadiums—and honestly, I can’t wait.”

The Mayhem Ball kicks off on July 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas before traveling to Seattle, New York, Miami, Toronto, and Chicago, then heading overseas with stops including London, Milan, Berlin, and Paris. The tour wraps up on November 20. Due to high demand, Gaga has expanded the tour with 13 additional performances, including extra shows in major cities across North America and Europe.

Fans can expect Gaga’s signature theatricality, paired with the album’s themes of embracing personal chaos and radical self-acceptance. As Gaga told ELLE in her February 2025 cover story, creating Mayhem was “about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life that it takes you to.”

She further explained, “Part of the message of even the first song on the album is that your demons are with you in the beginning and they are with you in the end, and I don’t mean it in a bleak way. Maybe we can make friends sooner with this reality instead of running all the time.” Gaga also emphasized that the album “breaks a lot of rules and has a lot of fun.”

She competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023.

In 2023, McDermott participated in the U.K.’s Strictly Come Dancing, a British television show similar to Dancing with the Stars. Partnered with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima, she was ultimately eliminated from the competition. Following the season, McDermott spoke publicly about her training experience, revealing that she found certain aspects of the process “distressing.”

She is an ambassador for Refuge, a U.K. domestic abuse charity.

In 2024, McDermott became an ambassador for U.K. domestic abuse organization Refuge. She has worked with the organization for years, notably collaborating on its 2020 Naked Threat campaign. The project led the U.K. government to criminalize threats to share someone’s intimate photos.
